The basic function of the Sales/Marketing Manager is to generate sales. This activity is to be conducted diligently in an effort to produce enough new profitable business to ensure the growth and profit goals of the company, as well as, contact and maintain existing accounts at the same time to review their needs. The Sales/Marketing Manager shall work closely with the Sales Representatives assuring orderly and consistent contact with current and prospective customers. The Sales/Marketing Manager will also work to develop new products that will successfully create new selling opportunities. The position will require travel, including overnight travel.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan, develop, coordinate, and control all outside sales activities of the company to produce the targeted sales and profit goals of the company within the guidelines of the policies
Make known all policies and procedures to be followed by all personnel of the Sales Department, ensuring that they are followed.
Contact sufficient number of potential customers in order to achieve a volume of sales needed to meet goals set for sales.
Assign sales reps staff and set up quotas for the continued development of company product lines.
Adequately service existing accounts and work with the Inside Sales Reps to ensure those accounts are maintained and promote additional sales.
Gather pertinent economic and industry date to identify sales prospects and marketing opportunities.
Keep informed on competitors’ selling policies, tactics, services, and prices offered.
Complete all paperwork required for sales documentation, including call reports and contact results.
Handle complaint calls as required and coordinate the resolution of those complaints
Direct and/or participate in training seminars to demonstrate company products and services to potential and current customers.
Portray a positive professional appearance and serve as a role model for personnel through enthusiastic performance of all duties.
Develop a market strategy and finalize a market plan to support it.
Assist in preparation of annual budgets regarding the company sales objective for revenue and selling expenses.
Supervise daily activities of those persons reporting to this position to achieve the detail necessary.
Establish new customer accounts and ensure follow through with the collection on delinquent accounts when needed.
Plan and direct the preparation of brochures and advertising to further the awareness of the market and its products and services.
Aggressively seek new products and develop them into viable selling opportunities that serve the needs of the market place.
Regularly meet deadlines for reports, operational data, presentations, customer information, samples, and other time sensitive activities.
Pursue a continuing education, formal or informal, in industry interests, administration, and sales management to maintain and/or increase ability to function as Sales/Marketing Manager.
Cooperate fully with other key personnel in conducting business in an effective and efficient manner.
Ensure that the functional job descriptions for direct report personnel are maintained and up to date.
Promote positive company image by exercising sound and ethical business practices as related to its employees, its customers, and the general public.
Must have the resolve to maintain the goals, objectives, and underlying principles of the company, regardless of personality conflicts or individual personal concerns of employees, although common sense and appropriate compassion should prevail.
The Sales/Marketing Manager should have significant experience in sales and marketing in manufacturing business.
Should be able to identify business opportunities and concerns with the ability to develop appropriate strategies to address each.
Requires a self-starting, motivated person who possess strong interpersonal skills who is able to motivate, train, and monitor the sales staff by establishing and maintain guidelines for standards of performance.
Should be able to delegate responsibilities; able to objectively evaluate the performance of others; and be able to hold others accountable in a constructive manner.
A bachelor's degree (BS) in Marketing and/or Business Administration from an accredited college or university is preferred.
should be willing for additional training to sharpen and skill deficiencies.
Minimum of five years experience with responsibility for the Sales and Marketing activities of a small to medium sized company or a division of a large corporation.
Experience in manufacturing is required with a high degree of success in the development of an outside sales network that has grown sales of profitable products.
Must be able to perceive the needs of other businesses through conversational interaction and assist with translating those needs into reality.
Must make most people feel comfortable in ones presence, and be very people orientated.
Must have the competence to plan and execute marketing efforts to gain new business and an overall grasp on future potential markets.
Must have knowledge and understanding of company policies and procedures, marketing techniques and trends, pricing and quoting systems, and the customer's potential business.
Must be prudent, ethical, credible, and use good judgement. Must be goal-orientated, committed to the company and its products, and have the ability to meet any type of person(s) with confidence.
Must be a team player with integrity and concern for the quality of products and staff members.
This position will be working primarily indoors but also requires the employee to travel for field sales calls - in all extremes of temperature and climate.
Work will be split between remote work/in office work and the working areas of customers' operations and a variety of meeting situations.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Eight to ten hour workdays per week with occasional Saturday work, as well as early and/or late weekday meetings with customers, vendors, and staff personnel as needed.
There will be many types of travel involved, which will included routine hazards of travel.
Overnight travel, which may consist of several sequential days and flying via commercial airlines, is also required.
The position deals with aggressive personalities in a highly competitive industry and will be stressful.
This is sales position that involves travelling (once guidelines due to COVID-19 allow).
This can be a fully remote position or a partially remote position. There will be requirements for regular meetings (either in person or via video conference).
