Founded in 1965, the Stanford Computer Science (CS) Department continues to lead the world in computer science research and education influencing society at levels that remain without parallel among academic institutions. Its spin-offs are among the most successful corporate ventures in the world, and many of the leaders in the academic and corporate research world are graduates of the Stanford CS Department.
The Marketing Specialist 2, under the guidance of the Executive Director of Strategic Research Initiatives, will develop, deliver and evaluate a portfolio of programs or products for the Stanford Strategic Research Initiatives group. This position is responsible for delivering multiple products/programs within scope, on time, and within budget. The Stanford Strategic Research Initiatives group oversees several industrial affiliate programs, including the Stanford Data Science Initiative, and the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab Affiliates Program. Industrial affiliates programs are corporate membership organizations that facilitate deep engagement for companies with Stanford faculty, students, and their research, enabling communication about real-world problems, opportunities, and innovative solutions. The portfolio of programs currently has more than 20 corporate members, about 50 affiliated faculty, and generates critical funds to help support the university's research mission in data science, artificial intelligence, and computation.
Your responsibilities include:
Implement integrated marketing communications and brand strategy, for the Stanford Computer Science Department across a variety of channels. This includes engaging alumni and corporations through a steady stream of content, including interviews of students and faculty, highlights of awards, and the impact of research on the world. You will also design and deploy digital advertisement to showcase what Stanford Computer Science can do for alumni and external companies.
Oversee design and production of marketing materials from inception to deployment. This includes creating and maintaining multiple websites for CS affiliates programs, updating and maintaining the cs.stanford.edu website, and creating and maintaining digital stewardship book that highlight the research to which our member companies contribute, and include member and faculty profiles.
Recommend and execute marketing strategies to meet business objectives, including building strategy for the Stanford CS departments external communications.
Conduct market research, including competitive benchmarking, and analyze campaign/program/ service/event effectiveness used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting. This includes benchmarking Stanford computer sciences' marketing efforts against peer institutions.
Plan and execute events to support marketing objectives. Along with the team, plan, project and manage ten annual events, including venue, food, audio visual, live streaming, registration, parking, and poster session logistics.
Manage vendors/consultants on specific projects. This includes selection and management of videographers, photographers, and graphic designers in support of the deliverables. Deliverables include videos of faculty discussing research, promotional materials, posters for the annual meetings and conference, stewardship books, and advertisements.
Education & Experience (Required):
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):
Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing.
Ability to drive cross-functional groups toward a common goal.
Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Understands how to implement integrated marketing programs across channels including digital and print.
Experience with market research and data analysis.
Demonstrated problem solver.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
