Full-time, benefitted position. Regular Work Schedule; attendance at athletic activities will require working nights & weekends, and some travel may be required to attend away team competitions.
The University of North Dakota Department of Athletics is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director of Marketing. The primary function of this position is to increase the marketing presence of the men’s basketball, softball, men’s & women’s golf, & football athletic programs, as well as other assigned duties by the Assistant Athletic Director (AD) for Marketing. A successful candidate must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and Regulations & must provide support and encouragement to ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
The Mission of the UND Marketing Department is to communicate to the public, our fans & alumni, the events and information of the athletic department. First and foremost, our job is to market and sell tickets to our athletic events. Secondly, we are charged with running an event that is “first class” and one that our fans enjoy and will come back to. Third, we are in charge of branding the athletic department in such a way that our fans, alumni, and potential students and student-athletes can be proud to call the University of North Dakota their university.
Job Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Gameday coordinator for Men’s Basketball and Softball; Produce and execute promotional schedule and marketing plan; Edit and create music playlists for related athletic events; Develop video board messages and public address announcements; Coordinate marketing materials for assigned sports with Assistant AD of Marketing; Create digital advertising strategy to promote gameday themes/giveaways and more; Write radio ads in coordination with the marketing team’s advertisement plan; Reach out to community teams to set up group outings/halftime performances; Work with REA Ticket office to plan ticket promotions; Coordinate with Sponsorship on fulfillment needs; Create and execute social media strategies for each game including in-game, in-season, and off-season plans that successfully promote the team and University positively to grow followers and increase engagement in coordination with increasing fan attendance; Coordinate photo/video shoots with appropriate external staff; Coordinate and execute marketing plans for assigned sports with Assistant AD/Marketing; Develop video board messages and public address announcements; Implement new in-game promotions (in coordination with Sponsorship team as needed); Manage videoboard fan messages; Manage and execute on-field gameday experiences; Write radio ads in coordination with the marketing team’s advertisement plan as needed; Assist with developing and executing plans for Football’s Fall Youth Clinic, formerly referred to as Fan Fest; Assist with planning and execution of various marketing events; Scheduling marketing’s appearance at community events, i.e. Movie in the Parks, farmers markets; Other activities, duties or responsibilities as assigned by Assistant AD for Marketing.
Required Competencies: Must have an effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public; Must possess excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; Demonstrated strong customer service skills; Must have strong organizational skills; Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize; Must have commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations; Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, or a similar field.
- Two (2) years of NCAA Division I or Division II college athletics marketing or professional sports marketing experience which can include any combination of full-time employment, graduate assistantships, and professional intern positions.
- Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
- Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Supervisory experience of graduate assistants, interns, student assistants & game-day event staff.
- Experience with NCAA Division I and/or Division II men’s or women’s basketball.
- Experience with NCAA Division I and/or Division II softball.
- Supervisory experience with student interns and/or full-time staff.
